Holistic Gynecology Services on Long Island

Whole person care for your annual exam, your cycle, your hormones, and menopause, at our Hewlett birth center in Nassau County.

What Holistic Gynecology Means in Practice

At Birthing Center Long Island, gynecologic care is part of how we look after women across their whole lives, not only during pregnancy and birth. Our office is at 1512 Broadway in Hewlett, in Nassau County.

A holistic approach here means two things. First, we try to understand why a symptom is happening rather than only quieting it, which usually means asking about sleep, stress, nutrition, and what has changed in your life alongside the clinical picture. Second, we lay out the options rather than handing you a single default plan. Some people want a conventional medical route. Some want to begin with nutrition and lifestyle changes. Many want a combination, and we will tell you plainly what the evidence supports for your situation and what it does not.

Visits are unhurried, and nothing happens without your agreement.

Annual and Routine Gynecologic Exams

A routine visit covers a pelvic exam, cervical cancer screening with a Pap test when one is due, and a breast health check. We go through the screening that is appropriate for your age and personal history, and we explain what each test is looking for and what the results will and will not tell you.

Menstrual Health, Painful Periods, and Cycle Concerns

Heavy bleeding, periods painful enough to interrupt your week, cycles that are unpredictable, and conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis are all common, and they are all under reported, usually because someone has been told at some point that it is normal.

Gynecology Services We Provide

The services below cover most of what people come to see us for. If what you are dealing with is not listed here it is still worth asking, because plenty of gynecologic concerns do not fit neatly under a heading.

Preconception and Fertility Counseling

If you are thinking about becoming pregnant, whether within the year or somewhere further out, a preconception visit is a useful place to begin. We review your cycle, your medical and family history, any medications you take, and anything else that may affect conception, and we discuss what is worth addressing before you start trying.

If you have been trying for a while without success, we will talk honestly about timelines and about when referral to fertility specialty care makes sense. Preconception care and fertility medicine are not the same thing, and knowing which one you need saves time.

Hormone Health and Related Symptoms

Hormonal changes can affect sleep, mood, energy, weight, skin, and cycle regularity, and the cause is often not obvious from symptoms alone. Thyroid function, PCOS, perimenopause, stress, and postpartum recovery can all produce overlapping pictures.

We look at the whole picture before recommending anything, which usually means testing rather than assuming. From there we go through what is available, what the evidence behind each option looks like, and what fits how you actually live. If you would prefer to start with sleep, nutrition, and stress before considering medication, that is a reasonable place to start and we will help you do it properly.

Perimenopause and Menopause Support

Perimenopause often begins years before periods stop, and it can bring hot flashes, disrupted sleep, mood changes, brain fog, changes in libido, and shifts in cycle length. Many people are told these are unrelated problems, or simply age, and go a long time without anyone joining them up.

We will talk through what is happening and why, review the approaches that may help, and weigh them against your own health history and what matters to you. That includes being clear about what the current evidence supports for each option, including the things that are widely marketed and thinly supported.

Who Provides Your Care

Birthing Center Long Island is staffed by licensed New York providers with advanced clinical training. Certified nurse midwives are licensed in New York State to provide well woman gynecologic care, including annual exams, cervical cancer screening, contraceptive and reproductive health counseling, and the assessment and management of many common gynecologic concerns, with referral to physician or surgical specialty care where a situation calls for it. When additional resources are needed, families may also explore fertility and reproductive health support.

You can read about the midwives and team who practice here, including their credentials and training, on our team page.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

A first gynecology visit begins with a conversation, not an examination. We go through your medical, menstrual, and family history in detail, and we ask what brought you in and what you want to get out of the visit. An examination follows only if it is appropriate and only once you have agreed to it, and you can ask us to stop at any point.

It helps to bring a list of any medications and supplements you take, the date your last period started, and the questions you actually want answered, written down if that is easier. If you have had care elsewhere, records of previous Pap results, bloodwork, or imaging save time and avoid repeating tests unnecessarily.

Serving Nassau County and the Five Towns

Our office is at 1512 Broadway in Hewlett, close to the Nassau border with Queens. We see people from across the Five Towns and the South Shore, including Woodmere, Cedarhurst, Lawrence, Inwood, Valley Stream, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Long Beach, and Far Rockaway.

Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Gynecologic care here sits alongside the rest of what we do. If you are also considering where to give birth, our midwives provide prenatal, birth, and postpartum care at the same Hewlett location, including water birth, and you can arrange a tour of the birthing suites.

Insurance and Payment

Many plans cover routine gynecologic visits, though what is covered and what you pay out of pocket depends on your specific plan and whether the visit is preventive or diagnostic. Our billing team can check your benefits before your first appointment so there are no surprises afterward.

You can see more about the plans we work with and how coverage is verified on our insurance page.

Common Questions About Holistic Gynecology Care

Is holistic gynecology different from regular gynecology?

The clinical care is the same care. Pap tests, pelvic exams, bloodwork, and screening follow the same evidence based standards wherever you go. What differs is the approach around it. We spend longer on history, we look for the cause behind a symptom rather than only managing it, and we go through the full range of options with you, including approaches that do not begin with a prescription. We also refer on to specialist care when that is what a situation needs.

People searching for a holistic gynecologist, a natural gynecologist, or integrative women’s health on Long Island are usually looking for a practice that will take time with them and consider more than one route. That is the care we provide in Hewlett. It is worth knowing that in New York, well woman gynecologic care is provided both by physicians and by certified nurse midwives, who are licensed for annual exams, screening, and the assessment of many common gynecologic concerns. When you call us we will tell you exactly who you would be seeing and what they handle.

Yes. Pelvic exams, cervical cancer screening with a Pap test when one is due, and breast health checks are part of a routine annual visit, along with the screening appropriate to your age and history.

Yes. Heavy bleeding, severe period pain, and irregular cycles are among the most common reasons people come to see us. We work out what is driving the symptom first, which may involve bloodwork, imaging, or referral, and then go through treatment options with you, both conventional and otherwise.

We take non pharmacological approaches seriously and we will always discuss them with you, including nutrition, sleep, stress, and lifestyle changes. We will also be straightforward about what the evidence supports and where a medical treatment is likely to be the more effective option. Choosing to start without medication is a reasonable decision, and it works better when it is made with proper information rather than instead of it.

A list of your current medications and supplements, the date your last period started, any records of previous Pap results or bloodwork, your insurance card, and the questions you want answered.

Many plans cover gynecologic visits. Coverage varies by plan and by whether the visit is preventive or diagnostic, so our billing team will verify your benefits before your first appointment.
